  • Connection to theme:

"Now, go and learn." Our holy books, our teachers, poets, words and stories can only teach us so much. I feel almost as though Hillel is saying- 'I have learned this from the study of the Torah- but I could not have learned it without living also in the world.'

  • Jewish Ideas:

I read a lovely collection of short stories about the Golem and the Maharal. Then I finished reading and thought, "Where were the women?" This play explores the presence and absence of women's voices and stories in Judaism. And, too, what it takes to question the beliefs which shape us.

  • Synopsis:

A young Golem, a creature of Jewish folktale shaped from clay and bound to obey her maker’s commands, finds herself alone for the first time and craving freedom. The wife of the man who made the golem finds herself faced with the decision whether to help the creature find that liberty–and perhaps her own.
